Manufacturer: INTAS
Pharmaceutical name: Albendazole
Pack: 1 pack (10 pills (400 mg))
ABD is utilized to treat infections brought on by worms. Albendazole functions by preventing the worm from taking in sugar (glucose), which causes the worm to lose energy and ultimately die. ABD is employed to address specific tapeworm infections (such as neurocysticercosis). Use ABD for a condition mentioned in this section only if it has been prescribed by your healthcare provider. This medication may also be effective against other types of worm infections.
Take ABD orally with meals, typically 1 to 2 times each day or as directed by your physician. If you or your child have difficulty swallowing tablets, you can crush or chew the dose and consume it with water. The dosage is determined by your weight, medical condition, and response to treatment.
Administer ABD precisely as your doctor instructs. Certain conditions may necessitate a break from ABD for 2 weeks followed by resuming the medication. In such cases, it might be beneficial to note on your calendar the date to restart treatment.
Use ABD consistently to obtain the maximum benefit from it. To aid your memory, take it at the same time(s) every day. Continue to take ABD until the entire prescribed amount is completed, even if your symptoms resolve within a few days.
Discontinuing ABD too early may lead to a recurrence of the infection. Other medications (such as corticosteroids, anti-seizure medications) might also be prescribed for your condition. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding ABD closely. Inform your doctor if your condition continues or worsens.
Side Effects: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, or temporary hair loss may occur. If any of these effects continue or intensify, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Keep in mind that your doctor has prescribed ABD because they believe the benefits to you outweigh the risks of side effects.
Many individuals using ABD do not experience severe side effects. Contact your doctor right away if any of these uncommon but serious side effects arise: changes in vision, yellowing of the skin/eyes, severe stomach or abdominal pain, dark urine. Immediately inform your doctor if any of these rare but extremely serious side effects occur: unusual fatigue, easy bruising/bleeding, signs of infection (such as fever or persistent sore throat), alterations in urine output, severe or ongoing headache, seizures, confusion, or a very stiff neck.
A serious allergic reaction to Albendazole is uncommon. However, seek urgent medical attention if you exhibit any signs of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (particularly of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
